About Surfrider Foundation Barcelona
Surfrider Foundation Barcelona is the representation in Catalonia of the international non-profit grassroots organization, Surfrider Foundation, dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world’s oceans, waves and beaches. We are a member of Surfrider Europe, and therefore our objectives, mission and vision are bound to those of the headquarters in Europe (www.surfrider.eu) and California (www.surfrider.org), although the actions and campaigns have a local
approach.
Using Surfrider Europe as a reference, Surfrider Barcelona focuses on the environmental problems that our community of Barcelona is facing, with a strong emphasis on the ocean, beaches and coasts that surround us.
Our mission is the protection and enjoyment of oceans, waves and beaches through a powerful volunteer network in Barcelona. Surfrider Barcelona was founded in 2009 by residents of Barcelona who love, respect and enjoy the ocean, the beaches and waves and who want to help their conservation. Through our shared passion we try to increase the awareness and respect for the ocean through:
- Educative programs with schools and organizations
- Beach clean ups and other event activities
- Sport competitions (surf, windsurf, kite-surf, wakeboard, snowboard, ski, etc.)
- The participation in the Ocean Initiatives and other programs of Surfrider Europe and Surfrider USA.
Through these events and activities try to create a better community of responsible citizens emphasizing the importance of maintaining clean oceans and rivers. By informing how each person can make her part to our cause we want to make a true difference.
